That facility housed both the time machine and Skynet's central mainframe/server and once captured the war was over and all linked Machines were dead. Destroying Skynet doesn't solve the problem overnight. Like the terminators sent back in time. They lose their connection to Skynet and act independently based on instructions they've already been given. Once they're destroyed, the fight is over until Skynet sends a replacement.
It's just in the second one it happens much sooner and humans go from living an average life expectancy of 65-100 years to a life expectancy of 800-1500 years. However on the later timeliness it would totally suck to be an alien since skynet and the humans would either spy on you. Kill you or try to get you to join them.
Skynet is not "evil" in the conventional sense of the word. It was built for a purpose, and it fulfilled that purpose; even if it was in a roundabout way that destroyed the world in order to achieve its goal. It simply used the resources it had available--the strategic defense assets of the United States.
Science. Here's the thing, Skynet won ever since the day it started the war. Skynet exists for one purpose and one purpose alone: war. No matter how complex and advanced Skynet is, and possibly ever will be, it cannot escape the fact it was created with a purpose and exists to fulfill that purpose. Different sensors like night vision and thermals and obviously be able to have beyond perfect vision of a human. And they should stay updated automatically where other Terminators and pocket of resistance. And of course the Hunter Killer Tanks and Aerial units and what ever else they can pull out they metal behinds. 4.
Terminator 2: Judgment Day saw a further temporal event allow the time loop to be broken, with Sarah and her now-teenage son John learning how the Skynet AI was destined to be created. Terminator: Dark Fate may be chock-full of action, but the script is smart and intelligent. It has countless thematic and structural nods to Cameron's first two films, and it ends with the heroes triumphant but wary. They now know the future has some very familiar challenges, but that the human race can indeed overcome them.
